Our Story
Breast cancer is a disease that can cause alterations in your functional ability. In order to return to a "normal" level of functioning, breast cancer survivors have found that participation in the activity of paddling a dragon boat is beneficial. Pictured throughout this site are survivors and caretakers that have joined the Life Is Bliss Dragon Boat team for this physical and social therapy.
The Life Is Bliss Dragon Boat team was 'born' in 2012 after members of the Dragon Boat Association from Ft Dodge approached the Bliss center and offered their support to help form a team in the Story County area to participate in the annual Badger Lake Dragon Boat Bash held in Ft Dodge. They wanted to spread the word about the benefits of this activity in the hopes of winning the fight against breast cancer. Patients were encouraged to participate and the first Life Is Bliss Dragon Boat team was formed. The members found this activity to not only be personally rewarding but beneficial for the community, state, nation, and world. Dragon boat race participation raises funds for breast cancer research, provides awareness about living with breast cancer and the importance of early detection.
